Our mandate from the Norwegian Environment Agency
Hardangervidda National Park Centre at Skinnarbu is a state-authorised visitor centre for the national park. As part of this mandate, given by the Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet), we have a particular responsibility to communicate knowledge about nature and the environment to the public.
Nature interpretation is at the core of this work. We aim to give visitors, and especially children and young people, a deeper understanding of Hardangervidda's nature, and why it is so important to protect it. Through engaging interpretation and hands-on nature experiences, we seek to create enthusiasm and awareness of the national park's unique values.
Nature interpretation at schools
We come to you. The centre offers nature interpretation directly at schools, tailored to different year groups and curricula in subjects addressing nature, the environment and sustainability.
The programmes combine factual knowledge with practical activities and sensory nature experiences. We bring materials, stories and enthusiasm, and meet pupils where they are.

Nature interpretation at the centre
Our aim is to facilitate great nature experiences with an academic focus and relevant content. At the visitor centre we offer adapted nature interpretation and guiding, both in our exhibition and in the surrounding area.
The programmes suit school classes, families and organised groups. Our nature interpreters and guides are locally rooted and passionate, and are happy to share useful information about Hardangervidda.
